| New!! PROJECT CHEER CART - Project Cheer Cart is another way that the Gibbs Cancer Center is working to continuously improve every patients’ quality of life. Read on to find out details, contribute, or ask a question about this exciting new endeavor.
What is it?
The Cheer Cart is a cart stocked with entertainment items that patients can use at the Infusion Center for the duration of their chemotherapy. The chemotherapy can last anywhere from 1-8 hours. Patients may require this treatment every few weeks or even everyday for a predetermined period of time.
Why?
Cancer was diagnosed in over 1,400,000 Americans in 2007. Of those cases, 21,370 new patients were in South Carolina. While researchers are constantly improving drugs, cancer is still incurable. Treatment with chemotherapy can take a toll on the body with side effects ranging from hair loss to loss of feeling in the toes, nausea, vomiting, etc. Peoples’ lives are severely disrupted because of the strategic but harsh therapeutic regiments. The Cheer Cart is designed to give patients something to look forward to and something they can control in their fight against a disease that is anything but desirable. At Gibbs Cancer Center, we understand the healing power of a smile. We are dedicated to providing our patients with the highest level of satisfaction, but we need your help to do it. This fight is too big to take on alone.

Your contribution not only makes each patient’s stay more pleasant, but also lets these patients know that people in their community and globally care not just about a cure, but about their attitude, about their will to survive.
